NASA Space Apps Challenges
Solar Clock
2012, 1 week
The solar clock was designed in response to NASA Space App Challenge #WeLoveData. The aim was to find a way to allow people to connect to the masses of data that NASA collect daily in a physical and interactive way.
The solar clock scrapes data from the web into processing to analyse the hours of available solar energy in the Dundee area each day. The hand on the clock maps the hours from sunrise to sunset through the white section of the clock to visualise daylight hours and therefore hours of available solar energy. The LED’s show when sunrise and sunset occur and the calculated hours are also presented on the screen.
